Hiplok D1000 vs DX1000: is one harder to cut, or just bigger?

Both locks are Sold Secure Diamond for ordinary bikes and for e-bikes, and both are sold as Hiplok anti-grinder D-locks with no frame mount on the listings. The buying difference is the locking area and the weight. The D1000 is 1.93 kg with a 92 × 155 mm hole — the compact Mini you only buy after you’ve measured the stand. The DX1000 is 2.75 kg with a 112 × 205 mm hole — the larger sibling when the D1000 won’t close on an e-bike, fat tyre or fatter post. Cut times aren’t a grade. The anti-grinder guide covers how those claims sit next to the grade.

These two Hiplok D-locks sit in the same Sold Secure Diamond band, including the powered-cycle grade for e-bikes. Neither listing includes a frame mount. The real split is the hole and the weight. The D1000 is the compact Mini: 1.93 kg with a 92 × 155 mm locking area. The DX1000 is the larger sibling: 2.75 kg with a 112 × 205 mm locking area. Measure your stand and the frame first. If the shackle won’t close, the grade on the box doesn’t help.

The D1000 suits a rider who needs Diamond on a known high-theft rack and has already checked that a 92 × 155 mm hole will close through the frame and the stand.

The DX1000 suits the same Diamond brief when the Mini hole is too tight — fat tyres, some e-bike frames, cargo bikes, or a fatter post — and the rider will still carry about 2.75 kg with no mount.

Side by side

“Sold as angle-grinder resistant” is the maker’s language. The Sold Secure grade on both locks is Diamond. This comparison does not invent cut times.

On the published sheet both locks are Sold Secure Diamond for ordinary bikes and for e-bikes, and both are sold as anti-grinder D-locks. Cut times aren’t a grade. Read what to look for in an anti-grinder lock for how those claims sit next to the Sold Secure grade.

The D1000’s locking area is 92 × 155 mm with a 32 mm shackle, at 1.93 kg. That’s a tight Mini. Fat tyres, cargo frames, and some Sheffield-style stands won’t take it. Buy it only after you’ve stood next to the rack with a tape measure. Full write-up: Hiplok D1000.

The DX1000’s locking area is 112 × 205 mm with a 32 mm shackle, at 2.75 kg. That larger hole is the reason to step up when the D1000 won’t close. You pay for it in bag weight, and there’s still no frame mount on the listing. Full write-up: Hiplok DX1000.

Carry is the shared catch. Neither lock is designed to live on the bike the way a Mini with a clip does. Upgrading to Diamond only helps if you still take the lock with you every time you leave the bike.

If neither shackle will close, look at a longer D-lock such as the ABUS Granit XPlus 540 rather than guessing from a product photo. If you need Diamond and you’ll carry it, with a more usable hole than the D1000 and less weight than the DX1000, start with the Litelok X1.

Skip both if Gold on the policy is enough and you want a clip and a cable for the weekday commute — that’s closer to the Evolution Mini-7 lane. Skip both if you won’t carry roughly 2–3 kg in a bag. Skip both if you haven’t measured the stand.

Measure first, then read the full write-ups: Hiplok D1000 and Hiplok DX1000. For locks sold against grinders, see what to look for in an anti-grinder lock. Want lighter Diamond carry? The Litelok X1 sits on the best of shortlist.

Common questions

Is the Hiplok DX1000 stronger than the D1000?

No. Hiplok rates both locks to the same anti-grinder construction and the same Sold Secure security standard. The DX1000 is larger and heavier; the D1000 is smaller and lighter to carry. The graded security level is the same — the difference is size and carry weight. (Hiplok guide; Sold Secure. Checked 27 Oct 2026.)

Same Diamond grade — why not always buy the bigger hole?

Because you’ve still got to carry it. The DX1000 is 2.75 kg and doesn’t come with a mount. If the D1000 closes round your stand, we’d go for the smaller one, because it’s the lock you’re more likely to take every day.

Do these pages prove how long a grinder takes?

No. Sold Secure Diamond is the independent grade on the sheet. Anti-grinder wording is the maker’s. See anti-grinder.
