Short answer: the ABUS Granit XPlus 540 is the lock we’d reach for when a compact D-lock won’t close round your stand. Its 108 × 300 mm shackle is Sold Secure Diamond for ordinary bikes, and there’s a frame mount in the box. If you ride an e-bike, the grade is Gold rather than Diamond, and ABUS doesn’t sell it as anti-grinder.
Verdict
This lock is useful when a compact D-lock won’t close on the stand and you still want Sold Secure Diamond for an ordinary bike, plus a frame mount. To be fair, on e-bikes the grade is Gold, not Diamond. E-bike policies that insist on e-bike Diamond should look at the X1 or D1000 instead. UK street furniture isn’t all the same size. A compact lock that won’t close offers little protection. The 540’s 108 × 300 mm locking area will close around posts that a Mini-7 cannot. That reach is the main reason to choose it.
Why the long shackle exists
The ordinary-bike grade is Diamond and the e-bike grade is Gold. Those are different Sold Secure tests. If you ride an ordinary bike and the policy names Diamond, this lock is a real option. If you ride an e-bike and the policy names e-bike Diamond, it doesn’t match — look at the X1 or the D1000.
Diamond for ordinary bikes, Gold for e-bikes
The frame mount is in the box. At 1.8kg on the frame, you’re more likely to have it with you in the morning. There’s no cable in this box. Don’t assume an ABUS cable kit from another product.
Not sold as anti-grinder
It isn’t sold as angle-grinder resistant. Diamond isn’t a grinder-proof badge. If anti-grinder marketing is why you’re shopping, this is the wrong lock. If the compact lock won’t fit, it might be the right one.
Using the length without leaving a big loop
A longer shackle also gives a thief more room for a tool. Fill it as much as you can: frame plus rear wheel if they both fit, tight to the stand. If a Mini already closes on your stand, you don’t need this length.
How much more room 300 mm gives you
The 540’s locking area is 108 × 300 mm. The Evolution Mini-7’s is 83 × 178 mm. That is 122 mm more length and 25 mm more width, and about 2.2 times the space inside the lock (32,400 mm² against 14,774 mm²).
In practice, that means the 540 can close around fat lamp posts, thick railings, and some cycle hoops that a compact lock simply won’t reach. It can also take a frame tube and a rear rim together on most ordinary stands.
Filling the shackle: a worked example
Here is an example: say you lock to a lamp post about 76 mm across, through a fat e-bike down tube about 55 mm deep and a 30 mm rim. Stacked along the length, that is 161 mm of the 300 mm, leaving about 139 mm of open shackle. These are example figures, so measure your own. That gap is the main weakness of any long lock, because it leaves room for a jack or a lever.
So use the length only when you need it. Put the lock high on the stand, take in the frame and the rear wheel, and turn the bike so the shackle sits as full as possible. If a compact lock already closes on the stands you use, the extra length gains you nothing.

- Very fat posts or cargo bikes: compare the Pitbull LS 8002, a long Diamond lock at 115 × 292 mm.
Diamond for ordinary bikes, Gold for e-bikes
Sold Secure tests ordinary bikes and powered bikes separately. The 540 is Diamond for ordinary bikes and Gold for e-bikes. If you ride an e-bike and your policy asks for Diamond, this lock may not meet it. Check the exact listing on Sold Secure’s approved products search and compare it with your policy wording.
For an e-bike policy that wants Diamond, the Litelok X1 is Diamond in both tests. The Hiplok D1000 is sold as angle-grinder resistant, which the 540 isn’t.
Carrying it
At 1.8kg with the EaZy KF bracket in the box, the 540 is about 0.2kg heavier than the Mini-7 and in the same weight band as the Litelok X1. The long shackle makes it awkward in a small bag, so the frame bracket is the realistic way to carry it every day. Check that your frame has room for a 300 mm lock before you buy. There are only two keys, so keep the spare somewhere safe. We haven’t cut or tested this lock; the figures are the published ones.

The X1 is Diamond for e-bikes and sold as armoured, with a smaller locking area and no mount in the box. The 540 is the long shackle with a mount. Choose based on whether it’ll close on your stand, and on the grade your policy asks for.
Is this a commute lock?
At 1.8kg with a frame mount, yes if it closes on your stand and the grade matches the policy. It isn’t the lock for an e-bike policy that wants powered Diamond.
